7 Free Things to Do at Gardens by the Bay

You do not need a conservatory ticket to enjoy a substantial part of Gardens by the Bay. The outdoor gardens include several free spaces that are useful for an early-morning walk, an evening light show or a low-cost family stop.

1. Supertree Grove

Supertree Grove is free to enter and contains 12 of the Gardens' 18 Supertrees. The current official hours are 5am to 2am daily, although access can be affected by ticketed special events.

2. Garden Rhapsody

The Supertrees' free light-and-sound show runs daily at 7.45pm and 8.45pm. It is one of the easiest free evening activities around Marina Bay, but arrive earlier on weekends if you want a comfortable viewing spot.

3. Serene Garden

Serene Garden is inspired by Japanese zen landscapes and is part of the free outdoor gardens. Current outdoor-garden hours are 5am to 2am daily.

4. Heritage Gardens

The Heritage Gardens use plants and landscape design to tell stories connected to Singapore's Chinese, Malay, Indian and colonial history. They are free and fit naturally into a walk between Bayfront MRT and the Supertree area.

5. World of Plants

World of Plants focuses on tropical plant life and ecological relationships. It sits within the outdoor-garden network and does not require a standard conservatory ticket.

6. Dragonfly & Kingfisher Lakes

The lakes and 440-metre boardwalk are free, open from 5am to 2am daily and are a quieter alternative to the Supertree crowds. The route also gives you a closer look at the Gardens' aquatic ecosystem and water-management features.

7. Active Garden & PropNex Family Zone

This free waterfront area is open from 5am to 2am daily and includes an inclusive playground, outdoor fitness equipment, musical instruments, lawns and a sensory trail. It is one of the strongest free picks if you are visiting with children.

What about Bay East Garden?

Do not plan your free day around Bay East Garden right now. The Gardens' own Bay East page says the garden is temporarily closed for development works, although parts of the promenade remain accessible. Older lists that simply describe Bay East as fully open 24 hours can therefore be misleading.
